How to Make a GIF from Video in Photoshop

Creating a GIF from a video can be a fun and creative way to share moments or convey messages in a visually engaging manner. Photoshop, being a powerful tool for image editing, also offers the functionality to convert videos into animated GIFs. In this article, we will guide you through the process of how to make a GIF from video in Photoshop, step by step.

Step 1: Open Photoshop and Import the Video

First, open Photoshop and go to “File” > “Open” to import the video you want to convert into a GIF. Ensure that the video format is supported by Photoshop, such as MP4, MOV, or AVI.

Step 2: Create a New Photoshop Document

Once the video is imported, go to “File” > “New” to create a new Photoshop document. Set the dimensions of the document according to your preference, as the size of the GIF will be determined by the dimensions of the document.

Step 3: Import the Video into the Document

Go to “File” > “Place Embedded” and select the video file you want to import. This will add the video as a new layer in your Photoshop document.

Step 4: Adjust the Video Layer

Right-click on the video layer and select “Layer Mask” > “Reveal All.” This will reveal the entire video on the layer. You can adjust the opacity of the layer to control the transparency of the video.

Step 5: Select the Frame Range

Go to “Window” > “Timeline” to open the Timeline panel. In the Timeline panel, click on the “Create Video Timeline” button to create a new video timeline. Select the frame range you want to convert into a GIF by clicking and dragging the playhead over the desired frames.

Step 6: Create the GIF

With the frame range selected, go to “File” > “Save for Web & Devices.” In the dialog box, choose “GIF” as the file format. Adjust the settings such as loop, quality, and color mode according to your preference. Click “Save” to create the GIF.

Step 7: Export the GIF

After saving the GIF, go to “File” > “Export” > “Save for Web & Devices” again. In the dialog box, choose the desired GIF file format and click “Save” to export the GIF.

Congratulations! You have successfully created a GIF from a video using Photoshop. Now you can share your animated creation with friends, family, or on social media platforms.
