Effortless Video Enhancement- Learn How to Add Images to Your Clips Using DaVinci Resolve

How to Put an Image on a Video in DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve is a powerful video editing software that offers a wide range of features to enhance your video projects. One of the most common tasks in video editing is adding images to your videos. Whether you want to overlay a logo, add a watermark, or simply insert a still image for artistic purposes, this guide will walk you through the process of putting an image on a video in DaVinci Resolve.

Step 1: Import Your Video and Image

Before you can add an image to your video, you need to import both the video and the image into DaVinci Resolve. To do this, go to the Media Pool and click on the “Import Media” button. Navigate to the location of your video and image files, select them, and click “Import.” Once the files are imported, they will appear in the Media Pool.

Step 2: Add the Image to the Timeline

With your video and image imported, the next step is to add the image to the timeline. To do this, click on the image in the Media Pool and drag it onto the timeline. The image will appear as a clip, and you can position it on the timeline wherever you want it to be.

Step 3: Adjust the Duration of the Image

By default, the image will play for the entire duration of the clip. If you want to adjust the duration of the image, you can do so by clicking and dragging the edges of the clip on the timeline. This will change the length of time the image is displayed in the video.

Step 4: Align the Image with the Video

To ensure that the image is aligned with the video, you can use the video clip as a reference. Simply click on the image clip on the timeline and drag it until it aligns with the video clip. You can also use the timeline ruler to help you align the image with specific points in the video.

Step 5: Adjust the Opacity and Position of the Image

To make the image more visible or to blend it with the video, you can adjust its opacity and position. To change the opacity, click on the image clip on the timeline and go to the Inspector panel. Look for the “Opacity” slider and move it to increase or decrease the image’s transparency. To change the position, click on the image clip and use the Transform tools in the Inspector panel to move, scale, and rotate the image as needed.

Step 6: Add Keyframes for Dynamic Effects

If you want to create dynamic effects, such as fading in or out the image, you can add keyframes. To do this, click on the image clip on the timeline and go to the Inspector panel. Look for the property you want to animate (e.g., Opacity, Position) and click on the stopwatch icon next to it. This will add a keyframe at the current position on the timeline. Move the playhead to a different point in the timeline and adjust the property to create the desired effect. DaVinci Resolve will automatically create a keyframe at the new position, allowing you to create smooth transitions between the two states.

Step 7: Render and Export Your Video

Once you have added the image to your video and made all the necessary adjustments, it’s time to render and export your project. Go to the “Export” menu and select “Media.” Choose the desired format, resolution, and other settings, and then click “Export.” Your video with the added image will be rendered and saved to your specified location.

By following these steps, you can easily put an image on a video in DaVinci Resolve. Experiment with different images, effects, and techniques to create unique and visually appealing videos. Happy editing!
