How to Add a Video to a PowerPoint Presentation

Adding a video to a PowerPoint presentation can significantly enhance the overall impact and engagement of your audience. Whether you want to include a promotional video, a tutorial, or simply a fun clip to break the monotony, this guide will walk you through the process of adding a video to your PowerPoint slides.

Step 1: Open Your PowerPoint Presentation

First, open the PowerPoint presentation to which you want to add the video. This will be the file where you will insert the video clip.

Step 2: Insert the Video

To insert a video into your PowerPoint slide, click on the “Insert” tab located at the top of the screen. Then, select “Video” from the menu. You will see two options: “Online Video” and “Video on My PC.”

Step 3: Choose the Video Source

If you have the video file saved on your computer, choose “Video on My PC.” This will open a file explorer window where you can navigate to the location of your video file. Select the video file and click “Insert.” If you want to embed a video from an online source, such as YouTube, choose “Online Video” and paste the video URL into the provided field.

Step 4: Customize the Video

Once the video is inserted, you can customize its appearance and behavior. To adjust the video size, click and drag the corners of the video box. To set the video to play automatically when the slide is displayed, click on the video and select “Play” from the toolbar. You can also choose to have the video play when clicked, or loop the video continuously.

Step 5: Add a Video Thumbnail

To make your presentation more visually appealing, you can add a thumbnail image of the video. Click on the video, then go to the “Format” tab. In the “Picture Styles” group, click on “Add Picture Shape” and choose a shape to represent the video. Then, click on the new shape and select “Edit Shape.” Choose “Set Picture from File” and navigate to the video file to insert a thumbnail.

Step 6: Save Your Presentation

After adding the video and customizing it to your liking, don’t forget to save your PowerPoint presentation. This ensures that your changes are preserved and that you can easily access the presentation in the future.

By following these simple steps, you can effectively add a video to your PowerPoint presentation, making it more dynamic and engaging for your audience.
